Kunshan in China

In economic terms, Kunshan is one of the most successful smaller cities in China (approx. 1.7 million inhabitants). Kunshan is part of the autonomous city of Suzhou. Together with Shanghai in the east and Suzhou in the west, it is considered the gateway to Jiangsu Province.
Kunshan was established as a city in 1989. It covers an area of approx. 939 square kilometers (around 363 square miles), with more than 1000 kilometers (around 321 miles) of rivers flowing through the city. 
Kunshan is well-known for its Kunqu Opera (which dates to the 14th century) and its waterfront city areas. Kunshan boasts a large arena for sports and other events and a modern theater.
